SLIP IN GORGE

RAILWAY LINE BLOCKED. TRAFFIC VIA WAIRARAPA. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) PALMERSTON N.. This Day. Heavy rain caused a slip on the railway in the Manawatu Gorge a mile and a half from the Ashhurst end late on Saturday afternoon. About 40 men are engaged in clearing the obstruction, which will prevent trains from running today and in all likelihood tomorrow and possibly on Wednesday. Wellington-Hawke's Bay trains have been diverted through the Wairarapa. Passenger traffic from here is being handled by motor buses for a distance of 17 miles to Woodville, leaving at the departure times of the trains. Goods are being taken over the WellingtonWairarapa circuit. All goods on hand here left at midnight last night.
