BRITISH CARS
AN EXPANDING EXPORT TRADE
Messrs Rootes Ltd., of Devonshire House, London, world distributors for Humber, Hillman and Talbot cars and Commer and Karrier commercial vehicles, report that during the 12 months comprising the season (August 1, 1937, to July 31, 1938) their total volume of overseas business increased by exactly 25 per cent, while private car shipments advanced by no less than 35.2 per cent. An especially noteworthy feature was the much increased demand for cars in the higher horsepower categories, shipments of these being two and a half times greater than for the previous season. Details of progress made by the Rootes group in the various world markets during the season make interesting reading. In the case of Australia for example, car shipments were up by 90.4 per cent, demand for the large Humber and Hillman models showing the same ratio of increase as for the world generally, while in New Zealand the number of big cars sold was three times greater than in the 1936-37 season.
