HOMING PIGEONS
MASTERTON CLUB. TEAMS AND FLOCK RACE. The Masterton Homing Pigeon Club flew two races recently, a teams race from Te Kuiti (185 miles) and Taumaranui (145 miles), and a -flock race from Taumarunui (145 miles). Only three teams completed the course in race time in the first race, three birds from Te Kuiti arriving in the dark, after most ''members had abandoned hope of their return. The only three places were filled by: W. J. Miller’s team, 1; V. H. Stear’s team, 2; F.. Harding’s team, 3. At Taumarunui, the birds were liberated in fine weather, with a slight head wind, but made good time, averaging over 40 miles per hour. The first six placings for club points were:—W. J. Miller’s “Night Raid,” 3 hours 33 minutes 2 secs., 1; W. Steer’s “Negroid,” 3-33-13, 2; C. J. Douglas’s “Red Malcolm,” 3-33-23, 3; A. Miller’s “Master Bricoux,” 3-34-10. 4; W. J. Miller’s “Night March,” 3-34-21, 5; C. J. Douglas's “Dixie Lady,” 3-34-28, 6. The two races next week will be from Picton in the south, for the Sykes trophy, and Taumarunui in the I north for yearlings only.
