BASKETBALL
WAIRARAPA ASSOCIATION. WIND-UP OF SEASON. A general meeting of the Wairarapa Basketball Association was held in the Y.M.C.A. Hall on Thursday evening, to wind up the season and to receive reports from the delegate and manager of the team which visited Timaru. There was a good attendance of players and executive members, the president, Miss O. R. Sutherland being in the chair.
The secretary reported that the Queen Carnival had brought in the excellent total of £5B 10s, thus enabling most of the expenses of the representative team to be paid. Appreciation was expressed by the president of the work of all clubs, and of the lona Club in particular, with its energetic captain, Miss P. Kilmister. A resolution was passed sending wishes for restored health to Miss H. Beech, the winning queeh. The manager of the representative team, Miss P. Edwards, gave a bright and interesting account of the Timaru visit, and made several valuable suggestions for improvement in representativeAeam organisation next. year.
A most capable account of the conference was given by the delegate, Miss A. Shelton, who also dealt with the proposed alteration in the rules in order to make the game of basketball uniform and international. Great interest was shown in these suggested changes! which embody New Zealand, Australian and English rules. An account of the recent visit of the representative team to Palmerston was given by Miss Edwards. Hearty votes of thanks were passed to the delegate and manager of the team, Miss Rayne, for a generous donation and the Press for its most liberal treatment and encouragement during the season. After the meeting the girls were entertained at supper by Misses O. RSutherland and A. J. Shelton.
