SOCIAL SECURITY
MR B. ROBERTS’S CLAIM. NO CLASS CONSCIOUSNESS. ■ (“Times-Age” Special.) “If nothing else had been accomplished during the past three years you would have to admit that by the Social Security Act Labour has done more for the welfare and progress of New Zealand than has been done for a great many years,” remarked Mr B. Roberts, Labour candidate, at Carterton last night. It was the crowning achievement of the Government and did away with all class consciousness, he said.' The National Party said they would provide a poor service for the poor. Labour believed there was no room in New Zealand to separate the citizens one from another. It was admitted that the rich would pay more than the poor. If a person had no income he would pay nothing. The Labour Party was going to helo the majority of the people, the 91 rather than the 9. Labour had not only guaranteed the farmer an income. but had guaranteed him for his old age. a thing he had not been able to do for the past 20 years. After explaining in some detail the provisions and benefits to be derived from the Social Security Act. Mr Roberts passed on to contrast them with the pensions scheme of the National Party.
