RIMUTAKA TUNNEL
« LABOUR WILL CARRY ON. VIEWS OF MR E. ROBERTS. (“Times-Age” Special.) “The National candidates for Wairarapa and Masterton have promised to proceed with the Rimutaka tunnel and deviation, but it is unfortunate for them that the Leader of the Party, the Hon. Adam Hamilton, has not promised to do so,” observed Mi’ B. Roberts, Labour candidate for Wairarapa, in an address at Carterton last night. “I need not say.” he added, "that the promise of the Prime Minister carries more weight and responsibility than that of the National candidate for this electorate.” Referring to a statement on the tunnel project by Mr G. A. Maddison, National candidate for Hawke’s Bay, Mr Roberts said: “The National candidates for Wairarapa and Masterton will have to deal with him if any of them get in —and there is not much chance of that.”
