FISHING OPENS
FINE WEATHER FAVOURS ANGLERS RIVERS WELL PATRONISED At daybreak this morning many fishing enthusiasts had their first thrills of the season, when, with rod and line, they patiently tried their fortunes on the opening day of the season. The weather was very kind, and, in fact, could not have been better. It was not surprising, then, that fair baskets were secured from the Waipoua and Ruamahanga rivers. Some of the fish weighed about 1-Jlbs. If the present ■weather holds for the week-end, district anglers will enjoy a particularly auspicious start of the season’s fishing. It is stated that the Ruamahanga Makakahi, Mangatainoka and Kopuaranga rivers are likely to yield good baskets, and that there are plenty of smaller fish in the Waipoua. Fishing licences issued by the Masterton Post Office to date total 63, including three for ladies, and ten for boys. The Masterton Fish Hatcheries have received 1,600,000 fry, 400,000 of that number being rainbow, and the balance brown. It is not expected that any further supplies of fry will come to hand this season.
