ZOO SQUIRRELS

A pair of squirrels brought to the London Zoo recently from Ecuador are terrorising their keepers. Known as Rage and Terror they are only slightly larger than the familiar grey squirrel, but are so aggressive that no keeper dare enter their cage. If the door is opened they grind their teeth, and if the keeper persists and walks in they attack him. One keeper who tried to clean the cage while they were present had to call out for help, for both squirrels were attacking him at the back of the neck. Another keeper beat them off and both men backed out brandishing brooms. They have an indoor cage and a communicating outdoor cage, but will not move from one to the other so that the keeper can shut them away while he cleans. He has to wait until they are in their sleeping box, and then he puts the key in the lock as quietly as possible, creeps in'and shuts them up. Yet through the bars Rage and Terror are most polite to visitors.
