MODERN MOTOR CAR
improvements suggested. WHAT OWNERS WANT. What owners want in the new models for 1939 is the subject of a series of ;uggestions addressed to an English motoring journal. What owners want must, however, always be a matter of very mixed opinion. The following recommendations of a general nature are made for the consideration of British manufacturers: — Fit tyres with white-coloured sidewalls, also of lower pressure. Present your models in six standardised colours obtainable everywhere. More and better streamlining, starting from the radiator and continuing in unbroken flowing lines to the tail Lower bonnets, allowing increased windscreen area, resulting in better ■oad view. Independent front-wheel springing on al l , cars. Larger and stronger bumpers at standardised heigths, free of lamps and number plates. Sink all lamps and horns into rs.diators or wings. Width of body in centre of car should be sufficient to seat three people easily. Increase area of glass in saloons by narrowing window and roof supports and bringing windows lower. Include wireless set in standard specification. Automatic oiling of chassis parts; the use of one oil only throughout the car.
