CROSS-COUNTRY RUN

WAIRARAPA COLLEGE EVENT Ideal conditions prevailed yesterday for the Wairarapa College’s first crosscountry championship, the contest starting from and finishing at the Park Oval. Altogether, 120 runners took part, and a splendid run respited. The course' from the Park was via Bannister Street, round the Riverside Golf Links, to the Colombo Road bridge, thence to the junction of the Ruamahanga and Waipoua rivers, to the Hospital grounds and back to the Park. Through the courtesy of Messrs McCalmont Bros, scaffolding was erected to enable the runners to cross, as this bridge is at present closed to traffic to enable a further span to be added to it. The races resulted: Senior, B. A. Patrick, 1; J. A. Brown, 2; R. D. Daniell, 3. Time, 23min 52secs. Junior: F. W. Reeves, 1; J. A. Stevenson, 2; N. L. Wilson, 3. Time, 18min 47secs.
