EXPLOSION AT COLLIERY. ASSISTANCE FOR STRIKERS. SYDNEY, September 28. An explosion occurred at the small Myall Extended Mine in the Newcastle district which is being worked by four lessees! Gelignite was used but little damage was done. / The Newcastle central strike committee has decided to ask the Government as a precaution against possible serious happenings to withdraw police protection from the small pits which are still working. The Australian Railways Union has decided to give £250 to help the striking miners and to impose a compulsory levy of 2s a member which will raise about £1740.
