A bird fancier at Manaia, Taranaki, has lost 60 British and foreign cage birds, some being stolen and others released. Access was gained to the aviary behind the combined shop premises and residence owned by Mr J. Hodgsson. The door was broken open once, but only a few birds were lost. Precautions were taken to strengthen the aviary, but later intruders cut the wire netting. A variety of birds was housed in the aviary, and those not stolen evidently escaped during the early daylight hours. Three settings of eggs, some ready to hatch, with the sitting birds, as well as three or four nests, wete taken.
