BASKETBALL
MANAWATU BEAT WAIRARAPA. The ladies’ basketball representative game played at Palmerston .North against Wairarapa on Saturday resulted in a win for Manawatu 18 —17. The game was fast and open and Wairarapa had scored twice before Manawatu opened their account. After that play was even. In the first half goals were scored for Manawatu by J. Clevely 3, M. Aikman 4, and E. Skinner 3. In the second half the scorers were J. Clevely 3, M. Aikman 2, and E. Skinner 4. In the first half for Wairarapa goals were scored by N. Cohen 6, J. Gemmell and E. Jones and in the second half by N. Cohen 8 and J. Gemmell. The teams were as follow:— Wairarapa: N. Cohen, J. Gemmell, E. Jones, P. Kilminster, M. Eastwood, R. Edwards (captain), M. Carrol, E. Talbot, B. Still. Manawatu: J. Clevely (captain), M. Aikman, E. Skinner, B. Mason, O. Sinclair, B. Coombs, R. Leask, A. Shaw, T. Sexton. The Wairarapa girls were subsequently guests of the Manawatu Association at the presentation of trophies function and then were invited to the Technical Old Girls’ basketball dance.
