JERSEY BULLS
SHOW AND SALE LOCAL BREEDER SUCCESSFUL A total of 145 Jersey bulls from practically every dairying district in the Dominion were submitted at Hamilton on Wednesday, September 14. The sale was conducted by Wright, Stephenson & Co Ltd. There was a record attendance of breeders and buyers from all parts of New Zealand. Before the sale commenced a show was held of the different classes, the judges being Messrs C. G. C. Dermer (Feilding), H. J. Lancaster (Palmerston North) and H. Morland (Hamilton). A Wairarapa breeder, Mr J. Jameson, owner of the “Tuhitarata” stud, had six yearling bulls at the sale, and was most successful in the show, and also the sale ring. In the Yearling Championship he was awarded the reserve with “Tuhitarata Lordship” by “Heatherlea Treasurer” out of “Tuhitarata Ladybird.” In the yearling bull group he was awarded two first prizes, two second prizes and one third prize. The same breeder also won the cup (outright) for the three-yearling bull group. Mr Jameson has now won the cup outright twice, for he has had four successive wins in the group class. Altogether 120 bulls were sold under the hammer, the gross price being slightly in excess of £5OOO. The average price was over £45. The top price of the sale was 1421 guineas, brought by “Oxford Golden Baron,” and offered by Mr Truby King, of New Plymouth. Six other bulls sold at £lOO. and over. Mr Jameson’s bulls sold as under:—“Tuhitarata Dark Knight,” 75 gns; “Tuhitarata Norman,” 70gns; “Tuhitarata Streamline,” 52 gns; “Tuhitarata Lordship,” 50gns; “Tuhitarata Attraction,” 421gns; “Tuhitarata Novelist,” 41gns., the line of six averaging 551gns. ___________
