ROAD CYCLING

WAIRARAPA CLUB’S FUNCTION. PRESENTATION OF TROPHIES. At the Wairarapa Amateur Cycling Club’s dance on Wednesday evening, opportunity was taken by the club president (Mr L. J. Taylor), to present Mr and Mrs Allison who are leaving the town shortly with a silver cake tray on behalf of the club members. Mr Taylor emphasised, the splendid support given to amateur sport in Masterton by Mr Allison and wished him and Mrs Allison success in their future activities. Mr Taylor , then presented the trophies won during the past road cycling season as follows: —Greenwood Cup, points prize for placings, won by K. Woollett; Sharman Cup, points prize for fastest time, won by K. Woollett; Taylor Cup, junior points prize, won by R. Copp; consolation trophy and wooden spoon, won by R. Green; Vincent Cup, for race held in Carterton, won by K. Woollett; Allison Cup, for Masterton-Blairlogie and return race, won by J. Brader; Allison Challenge Cup, for annual competition in the Masterton-Blairlogie race, won by R. Copp; Allison Cup, for first Wairarapa junior to finish in the open race from Masterton to Tauherenikau and return, held on July 9, won by R. Copp; cup for second man home in MastertonBlairlogie race, won by B. Dooling. Mr Taylor congratulated the club on having had a successful season and also on the fact that they had established a record for the Wellington Centre for an open race with their 61 starters in the race on July 9. Mr Taylor praised the handicapper (Mr A. O’Donnell) and the secretary (Mr C. Dykes), on their untiring efforts in their respective offices. The secretary was to be commended for the capable manner in which he had organised the dance. Mr Taylor also congratulated the orchestra for the music provided for the dance and the ladies’ committee, consisting of Mesdames Copp, Dooling, Doggett, Gay, Brader, Lefort, Woollett, O'Donnell and Taylor, for the splendid supper they had provided. The dance concluded in the early hours of the morning. The Monte Carlo waltz was won by Miss Wellington and Mr B. Dooling, while Miss Haggerty and partner were successful in winning the Lucky Spot military two-step. Extras were played by Messrs T. Udy and J. Urwin, respectively.
