OPAKI FOOTBALL CLUB

PRESENTATION OF TROPHIES. The members and supporters of the Opaki Club held a little function on Saturday night when the trophies won during the season were presented by Mr M. Welch, in the absence of the president. M. Hargood was awarded the President’s trophy for the best back in , the team; K. Roygard and M. Godden received Mr Leys’s trophies for the best and most improved forwards respectively, and “Snowy” Clarke, the trophy donated by Mrs Hargood for the best all-round player. Mr Nichol’s trophy went to J. Costello, as the popular captain, and P. Oliver was presented with a trophy from the club for services rendered during the season. Mr R. Hunt was presented with a fine set of carvers from members and supporters of the club. The chairman, in making the presentation, said that Mr Hunt had done great work for the boys, his car being at their service whenever required and nothing was too much trouble to him. Mr Hunt feelingly thanked them for the present, and expressed the hope that he would be with them for many years. The toasts proposed were: “Opaki Football Club” (Mr Nees—Mr J. Costello); “Referees” (Mr J. Dwyer—Mr W. Percy); “Carterton Juniors” (Mr H. Rayner—Mr J. Steftert). The function closed with the singing of “Auld Lang Syne.”
