The unemployment return for August 27, 1928. including those on the register who are for health or other reasons unfit for employment, discloses a reduction of 17.169 as against 4 the corresponding figure for August 28, J”’* 1927. Compared with the position forklast month there is a decrease of " 1775. Details are: — August 27, 1938 Registered but not on relief 881 On sustenance awaiting placement 360 On Scheme No. 5 relief 913 Total 2154 On sustenance, totally unfit for employment for health or other reasons, but being af- . .- forded relief from the Employment Promotion Fund 8000 For the four-weekly period under review, the expenditure from the fund under the heading of promotion of employment, as distinct from relief ex- > penditure, is estimated at £491,636.
