LONDON SALES. Messrs Levin and Co., Ltd., have received the following cable from their London agents, dated September 20: — “The auctions -opened here today with a large attendance of Home and Continental buyers. The competition was very keen, mostly from the Home trade. France was also operating for Merinos. As at present arranged the sales will close on September 30.” Compared with the closing rates of last sale, we quote:—Greasy Merino, best, id per lb. lower; average, Id per lb. lower. . Fine halfbreds, 50/565, id per lb. lower. Extra fine crossbreds, 48/50s, unchanged; fine crossbreds, <46/48s, unchanged; medium crossbreds, 44/465, unchanged; coarse crossbreds, 40/445, unchanged; low crossbreds, 36/40s, unchanged. At the wool sales today 11,264 bales were offered, and 10.514 sold, also 1063 privately. Competition was very keen from the Continent and Yorkshire, with substantial support from Japan for all types of wool. There was a wider demand for the better classes of staple offerings.
