ROAD CYCLING

WAIRARAPA CLUB.

NOTES ON SATURDAY’S RACE. (By “Three-Speed.”) The Wairarapa Cycling Club held its last race of the season on Saturday to Blairlogie. and back to Masterton for the Challenge Cup which was donated by Mr Allison, one of the club’s strongest supporters. Ten riders faced the starter on their long and hard journey. R. Copp, off the scratch mark, left his co-markers to be fourth rider at the turn. He rode the best race of the season despite machine trouble on the return trip. B. Dooling did excellently to gain second place, although he has not been heard of much through the season he showed on Saturday what he- could do. This is the result of hard training. K. Wollett, off scratch, was handicapped by cramp but rode very well on the return journey to gain third place. Had he not suffered from cramp he would have been hard to beat. C. Dykes showed form on Saturday to finish fourth but found the course one of the hardest he has ridden over. R. Killington, who has done very well this season, did not ride up to his usual form. He has been a trier in every race and is a hard trainer. L. Green and R. Green both did well going out but found the return journey too much for them. J. Brader, winner of the first race on the same course, did not last long this time, the pace being too hot for him. W. Gay, promising young rider, had the misfortune to meet with machine trouble at Bennett’s Hill. M; Graham, who has also shown promise as a rider was handicapped by machine trouble. The results in connection with the Challenge Cup were: —R. Copp first and fastest time (Ihr. 40min. 4secs.); B. Dooling second and third fastest time (Ihr. 41min. 48secs.); K. Wollett third and second fastest time (Ihr. 46min. 30 secs.). R. Copp will hold the cup till next season when he requires to defend it on the same course. The cups won by the club members during the season, will be presented at a dance to be held by the club tonight in the Masonic Hall.
