JYJR IRVING, who is 43 years of H|||| M age, has lived in Masterton for : 16 years, and is manager, and a director of G. H. Perry and Co., HI/ - i/jWg Ltd. He is a member of a well- 57 ' ' sBIPE-' known Southland family, was edu- F cated in Southland, and enlisted 4 f * from there as a private in the J® N.Z.E.F., going overseas with the |y O Bth Reinforcements. On the Western Front he rose to the rank of Captain in the Otago Regiment. He was severely wounded at Hebuterne in May, 1918. Returning to N.Z. in 1919, he returned to his father’s farm before coming to Masterton to the firm with which he is still associated. He has served continuously in the N.Z. Defence Forces since, and holds the rank of Major. For the past five years he has been president of the Wairarapa R.S.A., and is one of the four Dominion Vice-Presidents of the Association. He was made a Justice of the Peace last year. Mr Irving represents the finest type of young New Zealander, and places his country’s interest first, always. J. F. THOMPSON, SK National Candidate f° r WAIRARAPA. JJORN in Westport in 1884, Mr Thompson was educated at Nelson College, Auckland University College, and Victoria University College, which he represented at Rugby, cricket, athletics and hockey. After service in th Lands Department he commenced legal SSSSSSHESLSS—sSSSSSSEI practice in Greytown in 1913. Since 1919 he has represented the Greytown and Carterton Boroughs on the Wairarapa Hospital Board, and is a member of the Rongomako Maori Council. He has been president of the Wairarapa Trotting Club since 1918, is a vice-president of the Wairarapa Rugby Union, the Wairarapa Boxing Association and the Wairarapa Rifle Association, as well as patron of a number of other sporting bodies. Mr Thompson was a noted rifle shot, and was a member of the Greytown Club that won the N.Z. championship in 1923.
