BEAUTY AND FRAGRANCE IN MUNICIPAL HALL EXCELLENT ENTRIES RECEIVED FOR FLOWER SHOW. CHOICE BLOOMS WIN GENERAL ADMIRATION. Richly adorned with a bright and colourful display of spring flowers and sweetly perfumed with their fragrance the Municipal Hall today presents a scene of great beauty. The Daffodil Show of the Masterton Horticultural Society, which is being held in the hall this afternoon and evening, has attracted almost 600 entries, a considerable increase on the number received at last year’s show. In spite of the recent stormy weather, the blooms as a whole are of an excellent standard and provide an object lesson of what can be grown in Masterton and the Wairarapa. The champion trumpet daffodil of the show was exhibited by Mr C. L. Needham and the champion nontrumpet by Mr W. H. Booth. In the amateur classes the champion trumpet was shown by Mr J. Stalker and the champion non-trumpet by Mr B. Booth. The winners of special prizes and trophies were: —Most points in daffo(open class), W. H. Booth; most points in cut flowers (open class), Mrs B. V. Skeet; most points in polyanthus (open), Mrs H. E. Pither; most points in daffodils (amateurs’ class), J. Stalker; most points in novice class. Miss Brenda Yates; most points in cut flowers (amateurs’ class), H. J. Wardell; most points in polyanthus (amateurs’ class), Mrs F. M. Wallis;most points in decorative class, Mrs H. K. Macintosh. The appearance of several new exhibitors is a particularly pleasing feature of the show. Mr J. Stalker, of Lower Hutt (formerly a resident of Masterton) has made an entry in every daffodil class in the show. Included in this year’s schedule is a class for novices, open to anyone who has not won a first prize in a horticultural bulb show. Besides daffodils and cut flowers, there are classes for decorative tables, bowls, etc., including a section for children under 16 years of age. A particularly attractive trade display by Mr H. L. Esau is the centre of considerable interest. It contains many choice blooms of daffodils and polyanthus which are being greatly admired. The show was officially opened this afternoon by the Mayor, Mr T. Jordan. Details of the awards are as follow:— DAFFODILS (OPEN CLASS). Trumpets. Six varieties: W. H. Booth 1, F. C. Stowell 2, J.
