JEWISH NURSE
APPOINTED TO MASTERTON HOSPITAL. OPINION OF THE BOARD. The Wairarapa Hospital Board decided at its meeting today to appoint as a third-year nurse at the Masterton Hospital one of the Jewish nurses now being admitted and registered in New Zealand. The Nurses and Midwives’ Registration Board, which had approved of the scheme, limited the number of applicants to ten each year. Mr. D. McGregor said -that, apart from the humanitarian point of view, the number of Jewish nurses should be increased to twenty at least. There was a serious shortage of nurses in New Zealand and every board could take one without interferring with New Zealand girls. The chairman: “I did think the number was absurd.’ It was decided to inform the Department of Health that in the opinion of the board the number of Jewish nurses allowed to register each year be increased. «
