POLICY CONDEMNED

ATTITUDE OF BRITISH LABOUR COUNCIL DENUNCIATION OF GERMANY’S BRITISH THREAT CONDITIONS OF ENDURING PEACE LONDON, September 20. The National Council of Labour, after a long sitting today, issued a statement, that though desirous of maintaining peace, it viewed with dismay the reported Anglo-French proposals for the dismemberment of Czechoslovakia, under Germany’s brutal threat of armed force and without consultation with the Czechs. The statement declares that this is a shameful betrayal of a peaceful and democratic people, and constitutes a dangerous precedent. It expresses profound sympathy with - the Czechs, and reaffirms its conviction I tnat enduring peace is obtainable only i by the re-establishment of the rule of r law and by putting an end to lawless s force in international relations. e The Executive Committee of the Nas tional Peace Council also met today 1 and issued a statement hat no effort - should be spared in order to avoid the e immeasurable disaster of a general •• European war, but that no solution v was satisfactory if it was simply a device to gain time in order to accelerate war preparations or a bargain to secure immunity for Britain at the expense of Czechoslovakia’s liberties. The committee condemned the policy of forcing further concessions from Czechoslovakia unless safeguards for its independence and economic future were provided. EUROPEAN SOCIALISTS.
