BOROUGH WATER SUPPLY

BORING PROSPECTS USELESS. NEW GRAVITATION SCHEME. The Borough Engineer, Mr C. R. Mabson, was instructed at last night’s meeting of the council to prepare a scheme for improving the gravitation supply of water from the Waingawa River. "From the evidence available, there seems to be little chance of obtaining a large supply of sub-surface water from the low lands in the vicinity of Masterton,” stated a letter received from the Director of Scientific and Industrial Research. “That is the end of the chapter as far as we are concerned,” remarked the Mayor, Mr T. Jordan, referring to the Director’s letter. “We thought,” he added, "that we would give boring a good try-out and if it did not prove satisfactory our only alternative was to go further up the Waingawa River and get a good supply.”
