BOROUGH RATES

“A REMARKABLE PERFORMANCE.” POSITION IN MASTERTON. At discount date of this year, September 7, 80.7 per cent, of the rates levied by the Masterton Borough Council had been collected, as compared with 82 per cent, last year, and 76 per cent, in the preceding year. In reporting on the position at last night’s meeting of the council, the Mayor, Mr. T. Jordan, said it was really a remarkable performance and that the continued ability of the community to pay its rates was very satisfactory. The total rates struck this year were £36,964 as against £35,204 last year. On discount date this year, £28,378, which with the five per cent, discount allowed amounted to £29,864, had been collected. Last year, £27,490, plus the discount of £1444 18s sd, was collected.
