WAIRARAPA DAIRY STOCK
A VALUABLE ADDITION. A valuable addition to the dairy stock in the Wairarapa has been secured by Mr K. G. Fairbrother, owner of the “Dalefield” Friesian herd at Dalefield, who purchased at the recent dispersal sale of the famous “Lenslea” Friesian herd at Bennetts, Canterbury, the two months old pedigree Friesian heifer, Lenslea Ethel de Koi, at a figure which is the highest realised for a Friesian heifer calf for many years. This heifei’ is an outstanding individual and represents the best bloodlines in the Dominion. Her dam is Pareora Ethel Burkeyje, winner of many show championships including the Royal Championship in 1934. Pareora Ethel Burkeyje has been twice tested under C.O.R. producing 647.261 b. fat as a junior two-year-old and 25656.2 lb. milk and 802.621 b. fat as a five-year-old while when tested under Government Official Herd Test as a four-year-old she produced 724.321 b. fat in 305 days. The sire of this great matron is Rosevale Echo Burkeyje (whose daughters include the senior two-year-old record holder for all breeds, Pareora Echo Blossom, 8191 b. fat. The sire of Rosevale Echo Burkeyje is Echo Sylvia Sir Griselda (35 C.O.R. daughters up to 8921 b. fat).. The sire of Mr Fairbrother’s heifer is Lenslea Corona Pietje De Koi, also a winner at a Royal Show and who has 4 C.O.R. daughters to date with records up to 6171 b. fat as junior two-year-olds. The development of the latest arrival in the Wairarapa will be watched with interest as it is confidently expected that she will at least equal the performance of her maternal brother who annexed the South Island Championship in 1935.
