TWO CZECH BORDER GUARDS WOUNDED GERMAN THREAT TO SHOOT HOSTAGES DETAILS OF ARMY STRENGTH LONDON, September 19. The “Daily Teelgraph’s” Prague correspondent says that it is reported from Asch that two Czech border guards were wounded when German military outposts, consisting of 10 men each, approached within fighting distance of the Czechs on the frontier. The movements of two divisions of German troops were also visible from the Czech frontier. The same correspondent states that the German Charge d’Affaires intimated that for every Henleinist executed after trial for his part in the murders of Czech police at Schwaderbach last week, a Czech hostage will be immediately shot. The German Legation has begun to move its luggage and documents to Germany. The “News Chronicle’s” Berlin correspondent says that the German Minister in Prague has returned to Germany to report to Herr Hitler on Czechoslovakian feeling and military preparations. The information is that the Czech army, at present 400,000 strong, can be raised in 10 days to 800,000. Germany at present has about 1,500,000 troops, but must also secure her western and other frontiers. Accordingly military experts express the opinion there would not be many more than 600,000 troops in the campaign against the Czechs. THE RUMANIAN LINK WORK ON STRATEGIC ROADS AND RAILWAYS (Recd This Day, 10.30 a.m.) BUCHAREST, September 19. Rumania has increased her labour force working on strategic railways and roads, linking up with Czechoslovakia and Soviet Russia. Troops have also been moved where disorders might oe expected. GERMAN TROOPS ■ MASSING ON FRONTIER (Recd This Day, 10.50 a.m.) MUNICH, September 19. Germany is continuing to move men and material to the frontier, many going east towards Austria. CALM IN GERMANY IN SPITE OF PRESS CAMPAIGN (Recd This Day, 10.50 a.m.) BERLIN, September 19. Notwithstanding the unremitting campaign of hate against the Czechs py the German Press, there is no sign of any wave of hysteria among Germans generally. There is not even a guard at the Czech Legation or travel bureau. ACTION BY POLAND DEPARTURE FROM LEAGUE COUNCIL STRONG FORCES MASSED ON SOVIET FRONTIER LONDON, September 19. The “Warsaw correspondent of the “Daily Telegraph” says that it is officially announced that Poland has resigned from the League Council. The same correspondent says that 100,000 Polish troops and many tanks and aeroplanes are engaged in threeday manoeuvres near Volhynia. Manoeuvres have not previously been held on such a scale on the RussoPoILh frontier.
