MORTGAGE ADJUSTMENT
WORK NEARLY COMPLETED. STATEMENT BY MINISTER. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. “In accordance with the Government’s desire to have all applications under the Mortgagors and Lessees Rehabilitation Act disposed of before the end of the present calendar year, close touch has been maintained with the commissions and such rearrangements as have appeared necessary have been made from time to time,” said the Minister of Justice, the Hon. H. G. R. Mason, in an interview last evening. “In come cases commissions which have finished the work in their own districts have been used in a neighbouring district and in some cases new commissions have been appointed. The following is a statistical summary of the position throughout the Dominion: —Applications filed: Farm, 15,165; other, 17,304; total, 32,469. Less: Voluntary adjustments, farm 939, other 1046—1985; applications withdrawn, farm 2816, other 4132 6948; orders made, farm 8455, other 10,350—18,805; total, 27,738. Applications yet to be disposed of: Farm 2955, other 1776—4731. “The actual position is somewhat better than is disclosed in these figures,” said Mr Mason. “The returns relate to orders drawn up and filed in the Court of Review and of the 4731 cases left on hand an appreciable number have already been heard. Of the 32,469 applications filed, all but 4731 had been disposed of by August 31 last. By the end of October only about 700 will be left for hearing. By the end of November only 300 will be left, and December will see the finish, except for perhaps an odd case, and for cases re-opened by the Court of Review.”
