RESTORING ORDER
EXTENSION OF GOVERNMENT DECREE DISSOLUTION OF SUDETEN PARTY. ALL OFFICES AND PREMISES CLOSED. (Recd This Day, 11.35 a.m.) PRAGUE, September 16. The Government decree ordering the surrender of arms in sixty-three districts has been extended to thirtythree additional districts in Moravia and Silesia, some of which are wholly Czech. Through the dissolution of the Sudeten Party, all Henlein deputies have been deprived of .their Parliamentary mandates and immunity, but it is unlikely that the Government will take action against those remaining in Czech territory, as all declare that they were ignorant of Henlein’s proclamation and disclaim any connection with it. The police are occupying and closing all offices and premises of the Henleinist Party. Hungary has protested against the partial Czechoslovakian mobilisation near her border as unwarranted.
FLIGHT OF LEADERS
BEWILDERMENT IN SUDETEN AREAS. REPORTED ISSUE OF WARRANT AGAINST HENLEIN. (Recd This Day, 11.35 a.m.) LONDON, September 16. “The Times” Prague correspondent says there is no news of German reactions to the Sudeten Party dissolution, or of the plans of the Henleinist leaders who are known to have crossed to Bavaria. There is popular bewilderment in the Sudeten areas over what is called the flight of the leaders. The “Daily Telegraph’s” Prague correspondent again confirms that a warrant has been issued against Henlein. It is officially declared that orderhas been restored throughout Czechoslovakia. Herr Henlein’s proclamation had an effect totally unexpected, even by the Czechs. Henleinite leaders, subleaders, district secretaries and everincreasing numbers of the rank and file are going to the Czechoslovakian political authorities, protesting their unconditional allegiance to the Republic. GETTING IN SUPPLIES. HEAVY GERMAN IMPORTS. (Recd This Day, 11.55 a.m.) BERLIN, September 16. The German balance of trade, in-' eluding Austria, showed an astonishing import surplus in August of 64,500,000 marks, approximately £5,500,000, at the present rate of exchange. Exports for the whole of Germany fell by £2,000,000, compared with July. POLISH REACTION. RESTORATION OF TERRITORY SOUGHT. (Recd This Day, 11.30 a.m.) WARSAW, September 16. The first autnoritative Polish reaction to the crisis is that Poles residing in Czechoslovakia must be granted the same rights as the Sudetens. The semi-official papers demand the restoration to Poland of lands beyond Olza. NO WARRANT ISSUED. BUT PROCEEDINGS TAKEN ' AGAINST HENLEIN. (Reed This Day, 12.50 p.m.) * LONDON, September 16. The official Czech news agency has issued the following:—“Proceedings have been instituted against Herr Henlein, under paragraphs I and 111 of the law for protection of the Republic, which'deals with threats and ettempts against the security of the State. The report that a warrant has been issued for the arrest of Herr Henlein is untrue.”
