THE COAL STRIKE
ENGINE DRIVERS & FIREMEN WITHDRAW FROM N.S.W. NORTHERN FIELDS SIMILAR DECISION EXPECTED ELSEWHERE (Recd This Day, 11.5 a.m.) SYDNEY, This Day. The engine drivers and firemen have decided to withdraw from the Northern mines for the period of the coal strike, and it is expected that a similar decision will be made on other fields. Two more ships were laid up yesterday because of the coal strike, bringing the number of idle vessels in Sydney Harbour to 12, five of which are interstate freighters, and others coastal colliers.
