Remarking that they were in an unfortunate position, Councillor W. M. Norman at a meeting of the Southland County Council, commented upon the large amount of rates which had been written off under the Mortgagors’ and Lessees’ Rehabilitation Act. Up to the present rates amounting to £7708 had been written off. Councillor Norman pointed out that Hawke’s Bay, one of the largest counties in New Zealand, had not had a single penny written off. “We're getting it in the neck all the time,” he added; “it shows what we arc up against.”
