REPUBLICANS RETURNED. NEW YORK, September 13. A Portland message says that the State of Maine, which is anti-Roose-velt, held its congressional and gubernatorial elections yesterday, and reelected the Republican governor, MiLewis O. Barrows, and three Republican congressmen. The almost complete returns showed that Senator Tydings, of Baltimore, who was opposed to President Roosevelt in the “purge,” was defeated.
