TABLE TENNIS
WAIRARAPA ASSOCIATION CHAMPIONSHIPS. The Wairarapa Table Tennis Association will hold its annual club’s championship and handicap tournament this month. The handicap tournament (open) for singles only will be played at the Catholic Club rooms on Saturday night, September 24. Ample handicaps will be allowed for all players, and members of junior grades will be able to meet senior players on more than even terms. The club’s championship contest has been divided into senior and junior ladies and men, and the usual singles, doubles and combined matches will be decided. These will be played on Wednesday, September 28. Both the Catholic Club rooms and the Y.M.C.A. Gymnasium have been engaged. The senior games will be played at the Y.M.C.A. and the junior at the Catholic Club rooms. The committee reports that there has been a marked improvement in the standard of play during the season, and confidently looks forward to seeing the various titles keenly contested. Special attention is being given to the playing conditions, and contestants are assured that everything possible is being done in this direction. Entries must be in hand by September 21 and 24 for the respective events. AN EASY WIN. WINTER SPORTS CLUB BEAT KOPUARANGA. A table tennis match played in Masterton last evening between the Winter Sports Club and Kopuaranga resulted in an easy win for the Masterton team. The section results were as follow:—B section: Winter Sports Club 16, Kopuaranga 4; C section, Winter Sports Club 14, Kopuaranga 6; D section, Winter Sports Club 17, Kopuaranga 3; E section, Winter Sports Club 17, Kopuaranga 3. A welcome was extended to the visitors by Mr M. Winslade and Mrs Jarrett renlied on their behalf.
