STOCK MARKET

PRICES AT ADDINGTON A WEAKENING TENDENCY (By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, September 14. A weakening tendency, principally in the fat stock sections, was noticeable at the weekly stock market at Addington today. The store sheep sale was the best for hoggets for some time. There was a sharp firming on the lowrates for wethers and hoggets last week, the rise ranging from 2s to 2s 6d a head with backwards sorts up about Is 6d a head. One pen of better hoggets made 15s, and another 14s Bd. There was only a sharp improvement for good ewe lambs, one pen going at 17s 3d, all counted. Medium lines sold unchanged at about Ils. A pen of two-tooth ewes brought 27s 3d; others, 23s 3d. Spring lambs made up to 37s lOd; average about 14d a lb. Fat sheep entry of more than 5000 made a sluggish sale and last week’s prices were not maintained, the easing generally was about Is a head. Prices were: —

The entry of 465 fat cattle of poor quality declined by 15s to 20s a head on last week’s prices except a small proportion of the primest pens of good beef, which brought 38s a 1001 b and tops to 40s; heavy weights, 34s to 37s 6d. Prices were: Extra prime steers, £l9 17s dd; prime heavy, £l5 to £l7; prime medium, £l3 5s to £l5 10s; ordinary, £lO 5s to £l3; light, £10; extra prime heifers, £l3 12s 6d; prime, £lO 5s to £ll ss; medium, £8.15s to £10; light, £8 10s; extra prime cows, £l3 7s 6d; prime, £9 to £10; medium, £6 15s to £8 15s; light, to £6 10s. The yarding in the fat pig section was much heavier and for the entry of porkers prices were easier all round by 2s to 3s a head. Choppers were in small supply, with baconers in fairly good numbers, with the market, if anything, easier by 2s to 3s a head. Prices were: Choppers, £3 3s 6d to £6 18s 6d; porkers, 39s 6d to £3 7s 6d, average price a lb, 7Jd to 8d; baconers, £3 12s 6d to £5 4s 6d, average price a lb 7d to 7|d.

JOHNSONVILLE VALUES PRIME QUALITY SHEEP FIRM (By Telegraph —Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. There was a larger yarding of all classes of cattle and ah yarding of sheep at the Johnsonville stock sale. Extra prime heavy bullocks met with keen competition with prices higher than usual. The balance of the yarding of bullocks were light and medium-weight cattle, these also selling readily with prices firm. Cows were not up to the usual quality, but all classes met with a good sale with prices slightly easier than those ruling last week. The heifers yarded were of good quality with prices firm by 5s to 10s a head.
