PIRINOA

PERSONAL ITEMS. (“Times-Age” Special.) Mr S. Thomas, who recently returned from his annual leave, has been confined to his bed with an attack of measles. Mr Tom Duffy, Martinborough, is relieving at the local post office. Elder Bigler, who is the New Zealand president of the Mutual Improvement Association, arrived here on Saturday for the Green and Gold Ball tomorrow night. Mr lan Little, Porirua, is staying with Mr Frank Busch. Green and Gold Ball. Lovers of dancing are reminded of the Green and Gold Ball which is to be held in the Memorial Hall, Pirinoa, tomorrow evening. It is expected that there will be a large attendance as this annual social event is very popular with all classes. The crowning event of the Queen of the Ball is always an interesting and picturesque function. The music will be supplied by Udy’s Band. Low-Lying Country Flooded. Although heavy rain, together with an electrical disturbance of a severe nature occurred in the northern part of the Wairarapa, very little rain fell in this district. The Ruamahanga River, however, was in high flood and overflowed its banks in the vicinity of the Kahutara Bridge. Fortunately, it did not interfere with traffic. Low-lying country in the vicinity of Pukio, was completely submerged and in places along the main highway water was flowing over the road. On Saturday the weather was fine here although it was raining fairly heavily in other parts of the Wairarapa. Sunday was a glorious day and with a period of warm weather, there should be a great improvement in pastures.
