During a discussion on defence at the British Relations Conference, it was stated that in the event of war in Europe, Britain would place in the field only a small Expeditionary Army, her contribution being confined almost entirely to air and sea. The idea was in general that each Dominion should make provision for its own defence and that all should enlarge their conception of that. For example, Australia and New Zealand would be united in the defence of Singapore.
