THREE KILLED
RAILWAY CROSSING SMASH IN VICTORIA CAR HURLED INTO PIT & SET ON FIRE. YOUNG GIRL INJURED. By Telegraph—Press Association. Copyright. MELBOURNE, September 12. Three persons were killed and a child was injured when a rail-car crashed into a motor-car at Avoca crossing, 150 miles from Melbourne, today. The victims were Benjamin loriscoll, aged 66, grazier; Mrs Mary Newsham,- aged 50, his housekeeper; Mrs Henry Humphrey, aged 55. The crash occurred at the main street of Avoca township. Driscoll, who was driving, saw the rail-car too late. He swerved, but the rail-car, which was travelling at 30 miles an hour, hurled the car into a cattle pit where it caught fire.’
Mrs Humphrey’s daughter, aged 14, was injured.
