OBSOLETE LINE

WAIRARAPA—WELLINGTON RAILWAY. OPINION OF HON. P. C. WEBB. The opinion that the Wairarapa— Wellington railway line belonged to an age long since past, was expressed by the Hen P. C. Webb, Minister of Mines, at Featherston last night. “Until you get better rail communication between here and Wellington,” he added, “you will not advance.” “The survey for the Rimutaka deviation,” continued Mr Webb, “is well under way. On the morrow of its completion a start will be made with the job. A great future awaits the Wairarapa if it is given an opportunity. We are going to give you that opportunity, not because you vote Labour but because we believe it is the sensible thing to do.”
