EXTENSION TELEPHONES

REDUCTIONS IN CHARGES. Reductions in the installation charges and the annual rentals of extension telephones in residences are announced by the P. and T. Department, to take effect from October 1. In the case of ordinary type telephones the rental has been reduced from 30s to 15s and in respect to the desk type from 35s to 20s, while the installation charge has been reduced from 15s to 10s. The annual rental of the new hand type of moulded desk telephone will be 5s instead of 10s. In the case of installing new coloured telephones the subscriber is called upon to pay the difference in the capital cost between the black and the coloured instruments, amounting to £2. The Department has also decided to eliminate the installation charge of 5s in respect to a single switch for use with ordinary extension telephones or an extra bell and the annual rental charge of 2s 6d.

The Department is making the reductions with a view to promoting a greater use of extension telephones in the home and no doubt the public will appreciate the substantial concessions made.
