HIGHWAY FLOODED
BLOCKAGE NEAR POXTON TRAFFIC ADVISED TO DEVIATE (By Telegraph—Press Association.) PALMERSTON N., This Day. Owing do heavy rain and the swollen state of the Manawatu River, also a westerly wind assisting the tide to back up the river near Foxton, the main highway at Whirokino is still under water to a depth of over a foot in places.. Traffic is being advised to deviate via Shannon. It is not expected that the road will be cleared today, as there is still a considerable quantity ol water in Ivloutoa area, which has to find an outlet. No damage' was done in the higher area, though the. country is well ; saturated. The Manawatu Gorge road is clear. There have been no further falls of debris since the one which blocked the road for a brief period on Friday. The river is now falling appreciably.
