MINING STRIKE
CONSIDERATION BY FEDERAL CABINET UNION REPRESENTATIONS TO PRIME MINISTER CONFERENCE PROPOSED By Telegraph—Press Association. Copyright. (Recd This Day, 11 a.m.) SYDNEY, This Day. The Federal Cabinet today will consider representations made to Mr J. A. Lyons (Prime Minister), in Canberra on Saturday, by a deputation of coalminers.
It is stated in union circles that the deputation’s proposals was that the Government should convene a conference representing miners and owners, with an independent chairman, to consider the men’s claims.
The non-federation miners of the Rothbury mines have offered to remain idle for the period of the strike. The coal won in these pits has been considered the only substantial source of northern coal available during the strike.
Members of the Engine Drivers’ and Firemen’s Union employed in the mines have decided to cease work immediately if their claims for improved conditions are not acceded to.
