CANADIAN APPLES
INCREASED DOMESTIC CONSUMPTION. OTTAWA, Canada. Mainly as a result of world-wide demand for Canadian apples and the increased ’ domestic consumption, the stock of this fresh fruit held in storage in the Dominion on July 1 amounted to only 6,671 bushels. This compared with 57,419 bushels in storage on the same date last year, a decrease of approximately 51,000 bushels. In May, Canada shipped 5,230 barrels to the British market, 4,508 barrels to Germany and smaller quantities to Bermuda, Barbados, Jamaica, other Bri- 1 tish West Indies, Newfoundland and France. In addition Canadian canned apples exported in May amounted to 713,783 pounds as compared with 371, 578 pounds in May, 1937.
