CANDIDATES SELECTED TO DATE LIST ALMOST COMPLETED. THREE SEATS UNLIKELY TO BE CONTESTED.

The New Zealand National Party has now selected candidates to contest all but eight seats at the coming general elections. Latest additions to the list are: — Auckland East, Mr H. T. Merritt; Auckland West, Mr H. M. Bagnall; Avon, Mr H. Hunter; Christchurch East, Mr K. I. Armour; Christchurch South, Mr Gladstone Ward; Onehunga, Mr J. Park. The eight seats for which no candidate has yet been selected are: —Auckland Central, Auckland Suburbs, Buller, Egmont, Dunedin South, Grey Lynn. Wellington North, and Wellington West. It is understood that the party will not contest Wellington North, Wellington West or Egmont. The selection for Auckland Suburbs is to be made on September 12 and that for Auckland Central on September 13. The list of 72 candidates selected so far is as follows, names of sitting members being marked with an asterisk: — Auckland East: Mr H. T. Merritt. Auckland West: Mr H. M. Bagnall. Avon: Mr H.
