FUTURE UNCERTAIN
SECOND ARBITRATION COURT. STATEMENT BY MINISTER. CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. Although the Minister of Labour (the Hon H. T. Armstrong) declined today to make any statement as to whether the Second Court of Arbitration would continue to operate when its allotted span expired in November next, he said no attempt was being made at present to replace the workers’ representative on the court, Mr A. W. Croskery, who recently announced his resignation. Asked whether the fact that Mr Croskery was not being replaced in the meantime could be taken as an indication that the Second Court was likely to go out of existence, Mr Armstrong said: “You can draw your own conclusions.” Mr Armstrong said it had yet been decided whether the Second Court would continue to operate after November. There was no point, therefore, in appointing a successor to Mr Croskery until the future of the Court was settled. If Mr Croskery were unable to continue with the Court until November, his deputy, Mr G. T. Thurston, could fill the vacancy in the meantime.
