» LESS WORK THIS SUAIMER THE EVER-READY SERVANT.
1 There has. been no greater boon to '■ the housewife in recent years, than the • introduction of electricity to the home. < Almost has it revolutionised home-life. 1 this ever-ready servant, silent and ef- ! ficient, powerful yet cheap. 1 An inspection of the many electrical ■ appliances on display in the showroom 1 of the Wairararapa Electric Power • Board at Masterton, Carterton, Featherston, Greytown, and Martin- • borough will show how many and var- ■ ied the uses of electricity are in the' modern home. Stoves, Heaters, Irons, Mixers,. Washers, Refrigerators—they : are there for the modern housewife to 1 make use of, hand-maidens to banish drudgery and make life really worth ■ living. For good cooks and cooks who are ■ not so good, there is help in electric ■ cooking. The heat in an electric range I is always regular. Simple, switches or : thermostats control the boiling plates ; and the oven, at high, medium, .or low ■ temperatures. No draught from flues ■ can effect cooking when done the el- ■ ectrical way. Tbe housewife need never ! be disturbed by any alarming smell of burning, nor come to the oven to find > meats or sweets not yet done when '■ wanted for serving. ■ The heat in an electric oven can al- ■ .ways be controlled and a’ thermometer ! shows the actual temperature inside. ; So all the fuss of going to and fro : watching the food cooking is dispensed i with. One can cook and keep cool, for i there ..is no need to bend over a hot '■ electrical oven or peer into it. The : kitchen never becomes over-heated be- ; cause the heat is kept inside the oven ' and there is no flue through which it can escape and make the room stuffy.
It has been proved that with electric cooking, there is far less shrinkage than with cooking any other way. For instance, a leg of lamb weighing 31bs, lost 4ozs when cooked by electricity. When cooked by any other method the loss of weight was at least Bozs.
