SALE AT FEILDING
A BRIGHTER TONE (By Telegraph—Press Association.) FEILDING, September 9. Considering the particularly unfavourably weather there was a much better tone in the stock market at the Feilding sale today. The entry was small in every section and prices were firm on last week. Fat sheep, particularly ewes, sold well, and for store wethers there was a strong inquiry. In the store cattle pen some well-grown yearling P.A. and Hereford steers and heifers attracted attention, top quality lines making good figures. There was an excellent market for fat cattle. Prices ranged as follows: — Sheep: Prime Wethers, 28s to 29s 6d; second grade, 26s to 27s 7d; lighter, 24s 3d; prime ewes, 22s to 235; second quality, 20s to 21s 6d; average sorts, 18s to 19s 6d; light, 14s to 17s 6d; prime maiden ewes, 26s 4d; best hoggets, 22s to 23s 4d; well-finished lines, 20s 3d to 21s Id; light sorts, 17s 8d to 18s 6d; b.f. hoggets, good, 17s 3d to 18s; others, 15s Id to 16s 8d; well-grown ewe hoggets, 30s to 33s 6d; second quality, 27s 6d to 29s 6d; small, 24s 3d to 24s 9d; wether hoggets, best, 18s 6d to 19s Id small, 17s to 17s 8d; poor lines, 15s Id to 16s; ewes and lambs, 14s 3d; fat and forward wethers, 24s Bd. Store cattle: Heavy cows, £3 5s to £4; boners. £1 7s 6d to £3; yearling heifers, good, £3 5s to £4 10s; others, £2 12s 6d to £3 2s 6dj P.A. cows, £5 17s; yearling Hereford steers, £3 18s to £5 7s 6d; yearling P.A. steers, £2 10s to £5 14s; yearling P.A. heifers, £1 15s to £2 11s; yearling Hereford heifers, £2 10s to £3 10s. Dairy cattle: Springing heifers, £lO to £l2 7s 6d; late calvers, £4 15s to £9 ss; heifers, in milk, £4 to £9 10s; springing cows, £4 to £8 ss. Fat cattle: Prime P.A. cows, £lO 10s; lighter, £7 5s to £8; ex dairy sorts, £5 to £7; prime P.A. heifers, £l2 16s to £l3 17s; lighter, £8 2s 6d to £8 ss; ex dairy heifers, £5 12s 6d to £7 7s 6d. Pigs: Weaners, 11s 6d to £1 8s; slips, 19s to £1 10s; stores, £1 10s to £1 14s; porkers, £1 16s to £2. CARTERTON SALE Wright Stephenson and Co. Ltd report:—A small yarding of cattle and pigs came forward at our Carterton sale yesterday, and was offered to a small attendance. Practically a total clearance was effected at late rates as follow: — Cattle: Jersey heifers on drop, £7 to £9; springing Jersey heifers, £5 to £6 10s; heifers, just calved, to £6 10s; Jersey cows on drop, £6 10s to £9; springing cows, £5 to £6 ss; cows just calved, £7 to £9 2s 6d; fat cows, £5 to £7 2s 6d; forward cows, £3 to £4 10s; store cows, £1 15s to £2 10s; cull cows, 10s to £1 10s. Pigs:—Weaners, (small), 12s to 15s; (medium), 16s to 18s 6d; (good), 19s to 235; slips. 24s to 27s 6d; store pig, 30s to 345; porkers, 39s to 475; sows to farrow, to £3; choppers, to £3.
