MASTERTON Y.M.C.A.

MEETING OF DIRECTORS. NEW BUILDING APPEAL. The vice-president, Mr C. E. Jones, presided at the monthly meeting of the Y.M.C.A. directors held last night. The report of. the general secretary, Mr A. E. Bate, for August indicated that the rising tendency referred to in,previous reports had been maintained. The new facilities, though not yet complete were still proving popular. The usual club activities had been held in the senior department and had been fairly well maintained. Although school holidays had affected the attendances in the junior department, it had been a very busy month. There had been the preparation for the juvenile concert early in August and later on the visit of 20 boys to the Hutt Valley Association. This visit had certainly fulfilled its purpose in the fraternising of the boys of both associations, although the Masterton boys had not been very successful in the games programme.A group of older boys gave ready help to the Police in their search for a missing resident and one boy had been placed on a farm and another provided with a casual job. In the gymnasium there had been a slight decrease in attendances owing to the holidays, but otherwise a good month had been experienced. Basketball League games were continued throughout the month. The usual forms of service were followed and full use had been made of the rooms by other organisations. The completion of the new building was undertaken towards the end of the month and the prospects of having this done free of debt were particularly bright. The appeal had been well responded to and gave evidence of the confidence of the community in the association. The business of the meeting included the adoption of the monthly statement of accounts, which showed a credit balance of £77, owing mainly to building fund donations. A further statement disclosed a deficiency of £63 for the six monthly period. A number of new members were elected and certain removals from the rolls were authorised. Reference was made to the deaths of Mr R. O. Jarrett and Mrs M. Ross and votes of sympathy to the relatives were carried. Coming functions were referred to. notably the Mother and Daughter Tea next Wednesday and the' Gymnasium Concert which will take place early in November.
