CESSNOCK BEATEN

NEW ZEALAND SCHOOLBOYS’ SOCCER TEAM. NEWCASTLE (N.S.W.), Sept. 7. The New Zealand schoolboys’ Soccer team beat Cessnock s—l5 —1 this afternoon in dull and showery weather. Irwin opened the visitors’ account soon after the start, New Zealand holding this advantage until the interval and scoring three goals in quick succession after play was resumed. Yeoman displayed wonderful knowledge of the game. He added the final goal right on time. Cessnock repeatedly attacked, but Monro’s efforts at goal were brilliant, making many outstanding saves. Play was not confined to one particular goal-mouth. End-to-end play gave both sides frequent opportunities to score. The visitors have every reason to be proud of their success in defeating the cream of the players who virtually comprise the nursery for this code in Australia.
