PIPE BAND CONTEST
PROFIT OF OVER £lOO. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) PALMERSTON N„ September 7. A profit of £ll6 10s 7d was made at the New Zealand Highland pipe bands’ Dominion championship contest held at Palmerston North last Easter, and this, according to a report received from the contest committee, is exceptionally pleasing specially in view of the adverse weather which prevailed during the contest. The committee considered it reasonable to assume that had the Easter Saturday been fine the net profit would have been more than doubled. Of the balance of £ll6 10s 7d, £5B 5s 4d, representing 50 per cent, is payable to the Manawatu Scottish Society Pipe Band. A further 10 per cent will be added to the contest fund of the New Zealand Highland Pipe Bands’ Association, and the remaining 40 per cent, amounting to £46 12s 3d, will be divided among the non-prize-winning bands pro rata of their travelling expenses. The income and expenditure account for the contest finances showed that the gross proceeds of the contest amounted to £B2l 14s. Expenses totalled £705 3s sd, the largest item being £337 0s 9d for prize money and medals.
