CENSUS OF STORKS

STOCKTAKING IN ALSACE. A census of storks taken in 1937 shows that there are 360 of these birds in Alsace. They live in 164 nests, for the most part picturesquely set on chimney tops. Most of the nests are found in the Bas-Rhin department. The census was taken with great care, and the officials had to make many journeys on foot among the wooded hills and to out-of-the-way villages beside the Rhine and in the interior.
